I am a licensed contractor and have worked with many architects over the years and call tell you first hand that Quy is extremely knowledgeable and an absolute pleasure to work with. With Quy, you tell him what you are looking for from a conceptual basis and then you let him do his job. He adds the creative elements you would never even consider and makes the plan work. For what it is worth, my carpenters and other subs never complain about the accuracy of his working drawings, which is a compliment you rarely hear in our industry. We used Do Architects for a major renovation and addition to our 1930 home in the Fairfax Station / Lorton area. It was very important to us that our large addition (2800 sq. ft.) appeared externally as if it had always been part of the house...and...that the interior flow appeared the same as well. Quy accomplished this magnificently... had great suggestions... designed with outside light in mind... He designed in great detail, structurally as well as cosmetically thus leaving little to the imagination of the contractors....this was a welcome feature of his work. The only negative I can think of..and it is minor...is that he was somewhat resistant to a couple of changes in design we needed to make during construction....he cited proper architectural principles and we cited necessity. He does like to go by the rules...we liked that...he knew what would work and was always available to us during the project.

We more than doubled the size of the house to something just over 5000 sq. ft. We added 3 bathrooms, a huge gourmet kitchen, 3 master bedroom suites, a large day Room, complete re-fit of HVAC and gas conversion, 400 amp electric upgrade....a large project.....it turned out beautifully and we could not have done it without Quy!! Our project was to enclose a carport in a split-foyer home, providing a dining room on the upper floor and a crawl-space storage area on the lower floor. Quy incorporated all of the factors we thought important and also provided additional input by designing a new entrance-way to the house which balanced out the whole project. The timeline for the project was more a function of the contractors we hired to execute Quy's design. I can say that he was very timely in turning around the design, revision and construction document phases of the project and has made himself available for any questions that arise during construction. Most importantly, I would definitely hire him again if another project shows up on my radar.

He has the knack for helping you analyze what it is that you think you want and why, and then he can frequently show you different options that you may like even better than your original ideas.

Of course he has no control over the contractor, but as far as the design goes, he met all deadlines and even pushed one up sooner to meet the needs of our contractor.
